Prostate cancer is the most common tumour occurring in men. Curative treatments include surgical prostatectomy or radiation treatment either with an external beam treatment or internal brachytherapy. Treatment regimens have different associated risks and are delivered by different specialists. There are recently developed and standardized treatment indications based on disease status, and while many men may be receiving appropriate care, there are anecdotal observations that some men with prostate cancer may not be achieving optimal guideline care. The purpose of this study is to assess, using comprehensive population-based health services research data, what proportion of men in the NE have received appropriate consultations, treatment, and interactions, and to identify risk factors associated with access to that care. Identification of risk factors associated with appropriate care should provide valuable knowledge related to enhancing equitable cancer access to all men with prostate cancer.
