WINNIPEG, MB: The 17th annual Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad (MRFD) happens Saturday, May 31, 2025. The six-week prostate cancer awareness and education campaign kicked off today with the media campaign Powered by BMW Motorrad and regional presenting sponsor, Winnipeg Police Credit Union.

“Today we start the countdown to Ride Day and the 17th Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad fighting prostate cancer,” said Moe Sabourin, Co-Chair, MRFD. “Our 2025 prostate cancer education and awareness campaign starts today and our main message to Manitobans is the importance of early detection. Riders and pledge donors can join the fight by registering online at ridefordad.ca/manitoba.”

The campaign kick-off event was hosted by MRFD Gold Sponsor, Trans Canada Brewing Co. Special guest speakers included: Markus Chambers, Deputy Mayor, City of Winnipeg; Scot Hally, Deputy Chief, Winnipeg Police Service; Cory Willes, President, Winnipeg Police Association; Jared Hall, Inspector, RCMP; Christian Schmidt, Chief, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service; Nick Kasper, President, United Firefighters of Winnipeg; Cal Berzuk, CEO Winnipeg Police Credit Union (MRFD Regional Presenting Sponsor); Katrine Ferguson, MRFD Celebrity Ride Captain; and Ed Johner, Spokesperson, MRFD.

Featured at the event was the 2025 MRFD motorcycle raffle which raises a significant amount of money each year for the cause. Enter to win your choice of one of two motorcycles or $30,000 cash. Tickets available at Harley Davidson Winnipeg, Headlingley Sport Shop, Windsor Plywood, Trans Canada Brewing and the Winnipeg Police Credit Union.

Proceeds from the 2024 MRFD – $650,000 – were presented to Manitoba prostate cancer researchers represented by Dr. Sabine Mai, Chair, the Genomic Centre for Prostate Cancer Research and Don Murray, Chair, Manitoba Prostate Cancer Support Group. Over the past sixteen years, the Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad has raised over $5M in the fight against prostate cancer. Proceeds stay in Manitoba for prostate cancer research and education.

The 2025 Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad starts at Earls Polo Park and continues with a police escorted parade west on Portage Avenue to Assiniboia Downs, then on to Selkirk, Gimli and back for the wind-up event at Cowboys, Canad Inns Windsor Park.

More than 1.2 million men in Canada have prostate cancer and 80 per cent of them don’t know it. Ed Johner, prostate cancer survivor and Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad spokesperson, says a simple three-minute PSA test (prostate specific antigen) can save your life. “I wouldn’t be here today if I had avoided being tested,” said Johner. “That’s our message to men and their families – the best way to fight prostate cancer is with early diagnosis.”

The Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad organizing committee is led by co-founders Moe Sabourin and Kirk Van Alstyne. “Each year our committee is overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from registered Riders, pledge donors, volunteers and sponsors – including the Winnipeg Police Credit Union – Regional Presenting Sponsor; the Winnipeg Police Association – Diamond Sponsor and PlayNow – Volunteer Sponsor. Thank you!” said Sabourin.

2025 MRFD Celebrity Ride Captains are Adam Bighill, Winnipeg Blue Bomber Alumni; Bob Dyce, Head Coach, Ottawa Redblacks; Poncho Parker, Host, 92 CITI FM; and the Ferguson sisters – Ciel, Téa, Ani and Katrine – Manitoba Motocross champions.
