17TH ANNUAL MANITOBA MOTORCYCLE RIDE FOR DAD ROARS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST PROSTATE CANCER

WINNIPEG, MB:  Today, Saturday, May 31, 2025, the Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad (MRFD) celebrated its 17TH Ride and attracted over 1,200 registered riders in the fight against prostate cancer. The final fundraising total was over $650,000 bringing the 17-year fundraising total to $5.7 million dollars. Proceeds stay in Manitoba for prostate cancer research and education.

“The great weather was a factor in another amazing turnout of Riders and spectators,” said MRFD co-chair and founding member, Moe Sabourin. “Each year, the support from Manitobans is incredible. Thank you to all registered riders, pledge donors, sponsors, media partners and volunteers. Special thanks to our Regional Presenting Sponsor, the Winnipeg Police Credit Union.”

Prior to the official start, a very special announcement and presentation was made by Manitoba Justice Minister, Matt Wiebe, and Manitoba Public Insurance Vice President, Maria Campos, of the official Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad licence plate.

“Our government is honoured to support Ride for Dad and unveil our province’s newest specialty license plate, in support of a cause important to so many Manitoba families,” said Justice Minister Matt Wiebe, minister responsible for Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI). “To support the Manitoba Prostate Cancer Support Group, $30 from every plate purchased will be donated to assist Manitobans impacted by this terrible disease. This annual ride has raised millions of dollars to help families across the province, and we are proud to stand with Ride For Dad in support of their continued fundraising efforts.”

Starting from Earls Polo Park, riders headed west in a police escorted parade down Portage Avenue to Assiniboia Downs, then north to Selkirk, Gimli and back. The MRFD culminates with a wind-up celebration at Cowboys, Canad Inns Windsor Park.

Other guest speakers for the official start were Gene Bowers, Chief, Winnipeg Police Service; Jarrod Hall, Inspector, RCMP; Cal Berzuk, CEO, Winnipeg Police Credit Union; Cory Wiles, President, Winnipeg Police Association; Nick Kasper, President, United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg; Christian Schmidt, Chief, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service; Ciel Ferguson, Manitoba Motocross Champion; Adam Bighill, Winnipeg Blue Bomber Alumni; Moe Sabourin and Kirk Van Alstyne, MRFD co-Chairs; and Ed Johner, MRFD spokesperson.
