Established in 2000, the Ottawa Motorcycle Ride for Dad has raised over $7.7 million dollars for the fight against prostate cancer. The proceeds from our annual events are invested in ground-breaking prostate cancer research and life-saving public awareness campaigns of the disease and the importance of early detection.

A few years ago I met a man, who didn’t look ill even though he told me he had Prostate Cancer. Over a period of time I got to know him better. He was always jovial and I thought PC can’t be all that bad. Then one day I was having coffee with him and before I left I said to him:
…What are you up to this afternoon Charlie? Well I guess he thought it was time to clue me in.
He said, Garry, if someone had told me ONE year ago about the PSA test, I wouldn’t be going home this afternoon to arrange my own funeral!
I was speechless!
Not until later did I find out about the PSA test and that it can be used as a tool to detect Prostate Cancer. I didn’t know then that a dozen men in Canada die from it every day!
Not long after, Charlie passed away.
Since that day I have been raising funds through our own organization, the PCFF.
I have known a number of colleagues, friends, and family who have fought for their lives, all because they didn’t get an annual test.
We need to reach out to as many people as we can and get them tested.

Hard to believe the last big group ride for Ride for Dad was 2 Years ago. That was a year after my Prostate Cancer Surgery. My Prostate Cancer was detected through my PSA blood work which my Dr had me do during my yearly check up, since I had turned 50, 6 months earlier. Without having the PSA done, my Prostate Cancer would not have been found at an early stage and the prospects of Survival go down the later it is detected.
I was in the VIP section right behind the Executives for Ride for Dad on the Parade from the Aviation Museum to the Post Office building on Heron Rd. The Ride for Dad is a cause that truly hits very close to home for me, and I do what I can to help out and collect donations on my behalf for the Work that the Ride for Dad does. All monies collected from each area stay local, and goes towards Prostate Cancer Research and Awareness. YOU , YES YOU, you can help me out by donating on my behalf at the following link.

Every dollar helps. so help me reach my goal this year, you never know, you could be helping your Brother, your Father, your Uncle, Even your self.
So I encourage all men to talk to their doctor and get your PSA tested. It could mean saving your life
This is the who and the why that I volunteer Ottawa Motorcycle Ride For Dad – my Dad. He is a 5-year Prostate Cancer Survivor and it is my wish that all men get checked yearly with a simple, painless, PSA blood test – early detection of this disease is the reason that more family photos like this can happen.
Why I ride: Freedom & Camaraderie. Riding with friends and strangers but still alone with your thoughts.
Why I Ride For Dad: Because I believe a dozen Canadian men don’t need to die every day from Prostate cancer.
Because I believe in the overwhelming power of a large group of people pursuing a single goal.
Because I believe Prostate Cancer can someday be beaten.
Because I believe that the Ride For Dad is the organization to get us there.
In 2009 I met this amazing person after hearing his story and deciding we should start a chapter in Manitoba for Ride For Dad. Over the past decade, this man has inspired me and many others with his determination, courage and a great love for life. He has given countless days and hours each year, getting the RFD message and awareness out there will telling his own story of survival. He is one of the main reasons we all Ride for Dad.
I was reminded of this ride through Freedom’s post on Facebook. I’ve always wanted to do it but timing was often an issue. Well,I lost my dad in March and today, May 31st, would have been his birthday. So I’m riding for him this year. I miss him.
I have been a volunteer with Ride for Dad for 8yrs. My father was a survivor and avid supporter of the Ride as well. You could always see at the Ride supporting others. Love him and miss his presence ❤️
I ride for my grandfather who passed away with prostate cancer, for my uncle who is in remission from prostate cancer and for my father-in-law who is missed dearly.
My father passed away from Prostate Cancer in December 2014. He was only 52 years old. I urge all the men in your life (brother, father, uncle, friend) to get tested. With early testing and detection, this could of been prevented! I will continue to fight against prostate cancer and raise awareness!
This year my daughter and I decided to ride for Greg. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer this spring and had the surgery a month ago. He is doing fine so far.
I ran into a fellow motorcycle rider at the Almonte Tim Hortons in early spring of 2001. He introduced himself as Garry Janz and asked me if I had heard of the Ride for Dad and asked me if I had a PSA test. I said no to both not knowing what a PSA test was. He called me young fella although I was far from being young at the time. He explained what prostate cancer was and how early detection with the help of a PSA test could save people’s lives. I rode my first RFD in May of that year, had a PSA test shortly after followed by a biopsy at TOH. I discovered I had prostate cancer and had surgery in Sept. of that year the week of 911. I have rode in the RFD and helped to spread the word every year since then (with the exception of the first year of Covid). I look forward to riding again this year and continuing to spread the word that early detection saves lives. I am “living” proof and owe my ongoing good health to meeting Garry Janz in 2001. You might say that chance meeting and Garry’s advice saved my life and allowed me to continue enjoying life with my family today

We undertook the Kingston Motorcycle Ride for Dad July 24. We were provided with a map and predetermined route which took us from Kingston along ‘curvy-twisty, uppy-downy’ motorcycle backroads all the way to Henderson, near hwy 7, and back. The weather played along nicely with comfortable temperatures under slightly overcast skies.
Thanks to lots of very generous sponsorship donations, we managed to raise a very respectable $1958.-
